Francisco Benavides is Vice President and Chief Safety Officer of Pacific Gas and Electric Company and its parent company, PG&E Corporation.
Benavides started his role at PG&E in March 2020. Benavides is responsible for PG&E employee, contractor and public safety.
Benavides brings 30 years of global experience and knowledge in occupational health, safety and environmental management to his role.
Before joining PG&E, Benavides served as the Vice President of Environmental, Health and Safety at Alcoa Corporation. As one of Alcoa’s top leaders, Benavides helped achieve a 40 percent reduction in serious injuries and a 30 percent reduction in the rate of high-potential incidents.
Before Alcoa, Benavides held senior leadership positions over safety, health and environmental functions in global companies including Hexcel Corporation, Rio Tinto and Intel Corporation.
Benavides holds a Doctorate in Environmental Science from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad de Costa Rica.
